What is clove oil?
Clove oil is widely used to treat toothache, providing a simple solution from the intense pain of toothache that gets to work fast. Suitable for everyone over the age of 2, clove oil is the perfect temporary toothache relief for all the family.
How to use clove oil
Apply a small amount of clove oil and place directly onto the affected tooth. Be careful to avoid applying clove oil to the mouth, gums, tongue or surrounding teeth. Apply whenever pain relief is needed.
How does clove oil relieve toothache?
Clove oil works as a local anaesthetic, temporarily relieving pain in your tooth straight away. Clove oil also has a mild antiseptic effect which helps to kill bacteria around your tooth, helping to keep germs at bay until your toothache has been treated.
 
What causes toothache?
There are lots of different reasons for toothache, but normally it happens because there is a problem with your tooth or gums. Some of the most common causes of toothache include:
Tooth decay.
A cracked or damaged tooth.
A loose or broken filling.
Problems with braces.
A dental abscess.
Infection in your teeth or gums.
 
When should this product not be used?
Clove oil is not suitable for use on children under the age of 2. This product is not suitable for treating teething pain. Do not use this product if you are allergic to clove oil or any of the other ingredients. Avoid contact with skin and gums and only apply to the affected tooth, repeated use may cause gum damage. Swallowing small amounts of clove oil as it is applied to your tooth should not cause a problem, but if you have accidentally swallowed clove oil straight from the bottle, speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist immediately. Speak to your doctor before using clove oil if you or your child:
Have blood that does not clot easily.
Have diseased or damaged gums.
Are taking medicines used to prevent blood clotting, such as warfarin.
Are pregnant.
 
Are there any side effects?
Like all medicines, clove oil can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. These side effects may include:
Temporary skin irritation.
Dermatitis (e.g. skin rash, itching, flaking).
Swelling of the lips.
Blistering and swelling in the mouth.
You may become sensitive to clove oil.
