What is Infacol Colic Relief Simeticone?
Infacol Colic Relief is a form of treatment that is intended to be used as relief for conditions such as colic and trapped wind. This medicine contains the active ingredient simeticone. Simeticone is known as an anti-foaming agent and helps to treat bloating and pain caused by excessive gas.
What causes colic?
There is no known for colic, but it is believed that the condition is caused by the fact that babies find it harder to digest food. A baby may have colic if they cry for longer periods than normal, around 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for a whole week. Colic starts when a baby is a few weeks old and should go away by the time that they are 6 months old.
Who is this colic relief suitable for?
This colic relief treatment is suitable to be used for infants who are suffering from colic or trapped wind. It should not be used if the infant is allergic to any of the ingredients that are contained in the medicine. It should also not be used if the baby has a thyroid disorder. Instead, speak to a doctor before using.
How should Infacol Colic Relief Simeticone be used?
The recommended dosage of this colic relief treatment is a dropper full of solution (0.5ml) given to the infant before each feed. Use by releasing the solution on the back of the baby’s tongue. If there are still problems after using this treatment for 3-4 days, then increase dosage to 1ml. This may help at night in particular. Continued use can be done for a few weeks, even if the colic has been reduced. If there are no signs of improvement after increasing the dosage, then speak to a medical professional for advice.
Are there any side effects?
Because simeticone does not absorb into the body, there is unlikely to be any side effects. However, if you notice any side effects, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
